How do I model equipment on the staging area?

Modeling equipment involves applying consistent labels called equipment types to each piece of equipment. An example of an equipment type is HVAC/VAV. You can find the complete list of Equipment Types on our Data Model page.

The Equipment Tab simplifies the process of modeling the equipment in your building. Onboard’s Mapping Engine makes this process easy by automatically suggesting the equipment type labels for the equipment, so most of the modeling work is done for you! You can quickly review and change any of the automatically generated predictions on the Equipment Tab.

The process for modeling equipment involves two key steps:

  1. Label Equipment Types
  2. Correct Validation Errors

Label Equipment Types

  1. Click on the Equip Type column for a single equipment to label its equipment type, or use Bulk Actions to label multiple equipment simultaneously.
  2. In the Editor Box, select the correct Equipment Type from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click Save and the selected equipment type will be applied to the equipment.

Correct Validation Errors

  • If there are any validation errors the status column will display the error in the status column.
  • Common types of errors:
    • The equipment could be missing an equipment type label
    • The equipment has associated points with unresolved validation errors
  • Hover over the red icon to see a description of the issue, such as missing equipment type or invalid points within the equipment.
  • To correct issues, use the Bulk Actions feature to change the equipment type label for multiple equipment at once, or edit individual equipment as needed.
  • If errors are related to invalid points, switch to the Points Tab to address specific issues with points
  • Once all the errors are corrected, the red icon will disappear automatically for the corresponding equipment
